ATA Airlines which is known as American Trans Air, Inc.it is one of the famous and largest airline service providers in the world. In 2003, ATA has announced a company name change from American Trans Air, Inc. to ATA Airlines, Inc.

ATA Airlines offers domestic as well as international scheduled services. The Charter division is considered to be as one of the largest operators of military charters.
ATA Cargo markets cargo services, primarily in ATA's scheduled service operations.
ATA Execujet provides corporate aircraft and helicopter charter services.

Along with Chicago-Midway's origination and destination traffic, ATA also carries more than 3,000 passengers daily to Chicago-Midway to connect on codeshare flights operated by Southwest Airlines. This number continues to grow rapidly as both companies benefit from this first-ever codeshare agreement between two low-cost airlines. Southwest passengers also connect to ATA's flights via Phoenix, AZ and Las Vegas, NV with connecting service to Hawaii.

In 1972, Ambassadair, an air travel club, is founded by J. George Mikelsons in Indianapolis, IN. Also the Boeing 720 aircraft, "Miss Indy" was leased. Later, the deregulation of airline industry has occured and second Boeing 720 is acquired for Ambassadair, "Spirit of Indiana". Then in 80's , ATA was certified as a common-air carrier and acquired eight Boeing 707s. ATA got only 320 employees worked with it in 1982 which reported a revenue of $30.5 million.

Also, in 1991, ATA was the largest civilian passenger carrier for U.S. Military during the Gulf War, transporting 108,000 military personnel on 494 missions to the Persian Gulf for Operation Desert Storm. Finally, In 2003, ATA has announced a company name change from American Trans Air, Inc. to ATA Airlines, Inc.
