All about Alitalia
The foundation of Alitalia was made in the year 1946, actual names as Aerolinee Italine Internazionali which is abbreviated as Alitalia. It is stated that around 10,000 passengers travelled through alitalia airways in the first year itself. Fiat G-12 is the name of the first flight which carried passengers from Turin and Rome. Alitalia Linee Italiane was formed by the contract made between Alitalia airlines and Linee Aeree Italine in late 1950's.
After 40 years of its establishement, Alitalia Airlines was able to carry around 25 millions of passengers. It is in around 1997 that a regional Alitalia express was started. Alitalia airlines has also became member of the skyteam alliance in 2001.
Alitalia has made a contract with Italian airlines and the services are spread across the whole nation. As a result of the contract relation between the two airlines, around 12 DC-3 s were introduced in the alitalia airlines. They have been using these DC for about 7 years. Later Turboprop fokker F-27 were used by the airlines. The airlines services were increased rapidly and they covered about 9 million km. The total number of aircrafts were around 37 airlines.
The airlines also provides the facility of helicopter service for which it is using around 4 helicopters named:
- AB-47J Rangers
- A102
- AB204
- Sikorsky S61N
Airlines has started another airlines named ATI to serve the domestic needs in around 1960's.It used Fokker F-27 across the islands of southern italy.
The airlines flourished rapidly in a small period of time that it has attained the fourth place in the world for having travelled long distances. Later DC-9S , DC-8 super 62 flights were introduced by the airways.In 1970 Boeing 747 was used by the alitalia. Then DC-10 came after 3 years and was used across rome,boston,chicago,losangels,newyork etc.
